It might be Whitby’s most famous ship, but entrants are encouraged to look to far horizons for inspiration with our chosen theme. Quirky, funny or thrilling, it’s a vast sea of possibilities for a piece of flash fiction.

So what have we chosen? Well, The Endeavour, of course.

Whilst it’s doubtful anyone could be becalmed with such a hearty theme, if you’re struggling for inspiration our judge, Jane Lovering, has offered some words of advice to get those ideas rolling in.

“A short story is a snapshot, not a film, don’t try to make it do too much.  Get in, show us something that makes us feel, then get out, but remember that believable characters will carry your story.”
